On Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at the annual Iowa Broadcaster’s Convention in Des Moines, radio announcer Rhonda Wedeking received the 2018 Broadcaster of The Year Award.
Rhonda is in her 39th year of broadcasting. She has been informing and entertaining listeners on KICD for nearly four decades! Wedeking was hired by KICD in October of 1979, several years later she was promoted to the Morning Show and became Program Director/Brand Manager for KICD-FM – BIG Country 107.7 in Spencer, Iowa.
Over the years, Rhonda has always been willing to volunteer for many charitable organizations and communities in the area. Whether it’s emceeing an event or helping behind the scenes, she never hesitates to lend a hand whenever possible.
She has been a twenty year plus member of the Spencer Rotary Club, where she organizes and hosts the annual “Rotary Radio Day” fundraiser; a member and former officer of Easter Star, and is a 3-time co-chair of Spencer Flagfest. Wedeking also volunteers and supports the Spencer Community Theatre, the Clay County Fair and the Shayla Bee Organization, among others.
Her dedication and willingness to give back has not gone unnoticed. She has been honored with numerous awards over the years. Including the Kiwanis Daybreaker “Outstanding Service in Agriculture” award; The Centers Against Abuse & Sexual Assault “Woman of The Year Award” in 2010; Rotary’s “Marvin Kruse Club Service Award” and the “Jack Wedel Community Service” award in 2002.
Rhonda currently holds the record as the longest working employee in KICD’s history.
